Chassis Number Location
Every 4x4 manufacturer will have a chassis number system that gives you information about your 4x4.
With this information you can narrow down the search to buying the correct parts from Milner Off Road.
If the 4x4 is in the UK you should be able to use our Registration number field to identify your vehicle model. This is not applicable for vehicles outside the UK.
Locating The Chassis Number Or VIN Plate:
Over the years the chassis / VIN plate has moved around a lot, originally it was always under the bonnet on an aluminium plate. Nowadays the chassis number is in various places below is an example of typical places where this information could be;
- Rear Chassis Leg
- Driver’s Side Door Pillar
- Front Chassis Leg
- Under Bonnet
- Windscreen
The chassis number / VIN plate also contains the model code which is the 4x4 birth name. The only problem is the chassis plate under the bonnet will become more difficult to read over time so working out the chassis number is important.
World Wide:
Chassis numbers vary from all over the world most of the world’s chassis numbers are built up from 17 letters & numbers that are unique to that 4x4.
With exception of Japan & early chassis numbers normally pre 1980
How A Chassis Number Is Broken Down:

Ordering Parts:
If you require genuine parts or indeed a part that we don’t stock, a full chassis number would be required to be 100% certain of sourcing the correct part for you.
Model Codes:
Here at Milner Off Road whether you need to use our website or phone, using a model code is key for knowing what you 4x4 is. Some model codes do not appear in the chassis number so being able to look for the right part is paramount. With Japanese manufactures exporting their 4x4’s all over the world the model codes in the UK are not always the same worldwide.
For instance a KDJ120 Land Cruiser 2002-2009 3.0Td is a popular 4x4 in the UK but in certain places overseas they have a model called KZJ120 which is the same car body & chassis but it has the earlier KZ engine fitted to it
Custom 4x4:
We understand that customers like being individual & so they like their 4x4s to be the same!
With the Depth of knowledge we have at Milner Off Road we should be able to help you with the parts that are not quite standard for you 4x4.
